Flower Pickin’ Festival
October 20, 2009
A screening of “Johnny Cash at Folsom Prison” kicked of the Johnny Cash Flower Pickin’ Festival in Starkville, Mississippi, this past weekend.
The third annual festival commemorated the night of May 11, 1965, when Cash was arrested after performing at Mississippi State University. The police said he was arrested for public drunkenness on private property, but Cash maintains he was simply “pickin’ flowers.” He spent one night in jail.
In 2007, the city offered a symbolic pardon to the “Man in Black” at the first Flower Pickin’ Festival.
The Commercial Dispatch wrapped up this year’s festival, Johnny Cash Festival rocks Starkville.
